Music Video Analysis

The music video for Afterglow by Wilkinson poses a different structure to the standard type of music video. The narrative of the video is about a man and a woman that have been in a relationship for five years. It lists all the things that they have done or gone through in the relationship, showing statistics. It uses many modern conventions and intertextual references such as Instagram, video chats and video games. The video is not performance based as the characters do not lip sync throughout the whole video. The main characters in the video are not played by the song creator therefore doesn't specifically represent a star image for Wilkinson. The video's main audience is 16-35 year olds, the characters are portrayed as a middle class couple, the woman 'Dana' is sometimes sexualised during the video with scenes of explicit nature for example when they are in the shower. The artist is synthetic as he is making music aimed at a mainstream market, trying to sell as much as he can.

Lip Syncing Task

The lip syncing task was a really fun and enjoyable task as we got to understand the camera and editing software a lot better. It was a lot of fun to film but we found it difficult to get the lip syncing at the right time, to help with this we played the music allowed to help the people who were lip syncing at the time. When editing we also found it difficult and spent a long time on trying to cut scenes with the beat of the music, for example when the students in the classroom clap their hands. Also while editing we didn't cancel out the sound from the footage in a couple of the scenes which you are able to hear in the video.
